Simultaneous Interpretation Defined. Simultaneous interpretation is the ability of listening to a message delivered in a language while interpreting those words into another language in real time. This modality of interpretation generally requires the use of equipment, thus enabling transmission to audiences, large or small. Skilled simultaneous interpreters work in pairs, in order to be able to maintain the concentration required to perform the task. This style of interpretation is appropriate for meetings, conferences and trade shows, as well as legal settings and tours of facilities, with multilingual audiences. Conference Interpreters. Simultaneous interpreters are carefully screened before they are made part of an interpretation team. Interpreters must possess no less than five-years of experience that is specific to conference interpretation. Preference is given to interpreters with membership in selective professional organizations, such as TAALS (The American Association of Language Specialists), AIIC (Association International of Interpreters (International Association of Conference Interpreters, or interpreters who have passed stringent exams such as the Federal Court Certification Exam (FCICE), or whose field of study at college or postgraduate level was simultaneous interpretation. Conference Coordination. A careful revision of all details before the event will ensure that the client will not have to deal with problems related to simultaneous interpretation services or equipment. Clients can have peace of mind, thus being able to focus on other details pertinent to their event.
